Reflecting on Resolutions: The Three Trinities for 2024—Books, Miles, and Matters of the Heart
As another year unfolds, many of us take a moment to reflect on the past and envision what lies ahead. The tradition of making New Year’s resolutions is often filled with high hopes and big goals—sometimes too rigid or unrealistic. This year, I’m approaching resolutions with a different mindset: one rooted in flexibility, intention, and personal meaning. I’m calling this my “Three Trinities” for 2024—Books, Miles, and Matters of the Heart.
Books: Feeding the Mind and Spirit
Books have long been a source of knowledge, comfort, and growth. In 2024, I’m focusing not on how many books I’ll read, but on how meaningfully I’ll engage with them sticking to new years resolutions. I want to choose stories and subjects that challenge me, expand my thinking, and speak to my current phase of life. Whether it's fiction that nourishes the imagination, nonfiction that educates, or memoirs that inspire, books will be one of my primary tools for personal development this year.
Reading doesn’t need to be a race. It’s more important to absorb and reflect than to rush through a checklist. I invite you to consider what kinds of reading will serve your growth in 2024. Let your book choices mirror your aspirations and curiosities.
Miles: Moving Toward Wellness and Presence
“Miles” isn’t just about distance—it’s about movement. For me, this includes walking, running, hiking, and simply being active in ways that support both physical and mental wellness. In a world increasingly consumed by screens and sedentary habits, reclaiming movement is a form of self-respect.
Setting an intention to log more miles this year isn’t about performance—it’s about presence. Movement allows time for reflection, a change of scenery, and a reconnection with the body. Whether it’s a morning walk or an evening jog, these miles will be a gentle but consistent reminder to stay grounded and energized.
Matters of the Heart: Nurturing Relationships and Emotional Health
The final trinity—“Matters of the Heart”—is perhaps the most important. In 2024, I want to make space for deeper connections, honest conversations, and acts of kindness, both toward myself and others. Emotional growth is not linear, but it flourishes with intention.
Whether it’s investing more in existing relationships, being more emotionally available, or practicing self-compassion, matters of the heart require attention and courage. This resolution is less about what I’ll “do” and more about how I’ll “be.”
Embracing Flexibility and Meaning
The beauty of the Three Trinities is that they aren’t rigid goals—they are guiding themes. They offer room to adapt, grow, and pivot without the guilt that often comes with broken resolutions. Life isn’t always predictable, and neither is personal growth. The key is to remain committed to the direction, even if the path shifts.
